4. OPEN UP YOUR HEART

    (S. W.  Benjamin)

Millions of people are living on the edge

Watchin’ their dreams die, hearing lies and more lies

Are these the final days the prophets have pronounced

Or is there still time to turn this world around

Open Up Your Heart

Open Up Your Heart

We’ve got a history of hate, a history of war

Separation, segregation, bigotry and more

Tradition holds on tight, we fight and fight and fight

But how can we keep score when loves the only door

Open Up Your Heart

Open Up Your Heart

Is nothing innocent or sacred anymore

Do we kill the fatted calf just to see the gore

Do we help the homeless or ship them shore to shore

The fact that we are one cannot be ignored

Open Up Your Heart

Open Up Your Heart

We are all members of the rainbow tribe

Brothers of the sun, sisters of the light.

Our mother is the earth, our father is the sky

Let us dance together…it’s time that we unite.

Open Up Your Heart

Open Up Your Heart

1. FREEDOM

    (Tom Benjamin & S.W. Benjamin)

We build walls when we ought to be building bridges

We lose touch when we ought to be holding on

We hold out when we really should be giving

We hold on when we’re holding on to nothing at all

(CHORUS)

Freedom from fear of certain failure

Freedom from the bar we place across every door

Freedom from things we just imagine

Freedom from all that came before

We speak out when we could learn so much in silence

We think twice when we shouldn’t think at all

We give in when we should stand and speak our truth

We give up then it’s going going gone

(CHORUS)

Freedom from fear of certain failure

Freedom from the bar we place across every door

Freedom from things we just imagine

Freedom from all that came before

Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Freedom.....

(Refrain)

Freedom from fear and failure, hunger and greed

Freedom from jealousy, pride, anger, and hypocrisy

Freedom from everything you want but really you don’t need

Freedom from glamour, illusion and insurance companies

Freedom from atomic bombs and wars and penitentiaries

Freedom from pain and sorrow and poor pitiful me

Freedom from sickness and suffering, ignorance and poverty

Freedom from all bondages, freedom just to be

Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Freedom......

2. GRANDMOTHER MOON

   (S. W. Benjamin)

Cover me with your darkness

Hide me with your mystery

You keep the dreams for the dreamers

The visions for the visionaries

Lovers look to you for light

Poets rely on your insight

You control the ocean tides

The ebb and flow of life

(CHORUS)

When I look into your face

I see the lines of your grace

Like a road map into space

Grandmother Moon

Shine down on me

Shine down on me

Shine down on me

Tonight my soul is breaking

For a world lost in the dark

Maleficent forces have taken

A hold of our hearts

Reflect on us your wisdom

We are in desperate need

The ancients knew your magic

Oh keeper of Great Mystery

(CHORUS)

(Bridge)

I pray for death of the part of me

That cannot hear and will not see

The light shining from above to set me free

I pray for life more abundantly

For this good earth beneath my feet

For truth and for harmony to set us free

To set us free

And when the sun has had its day

And you peak through the night

Some say you’re just an empty shell

Reflecting someone else’s light

But do we not all come from

Grandfather Sun the radiant one

And Mother Earth gives us a form

The rainbow children we are born

(CHORUS)

3. WHEN I WAS A CHILD

    (S. W. Benjamin)

When I was a child I just wanted to be free

To run and play and live outside

Just happy to be me

The earth she was my friend

The stars my inspiration

Little did I know, I had it all

I had it ALL

So I left my true companions

The trees, the birds, the canyons

And went out on my own

To see what I could find

Went to school, learned all the rules,

Became bewildered and confused

While the child within sat quietly waiting

Locked in a cage of my own making

(CHORUS)

Oh, why couldn’t I realize

All I needed was right there inside

Call it Hope, call it Faith

Call it Love, call it Grace,

All I needed was right there inside

A time of change has come at last

The world has learned from the past

That fear and separation bring

More sorrow and pain

And the answers lie within our hearts

Within each life there is a spark

A flame of truth to light the way

(CHORUS)

Are you willing to change

Are you willing to try

‘Cause there’s nothing to gain from living a lie

Just open you heart and open your mind

Let the child inside guide you

One step at a time

(CHORUS)

5. THIS MUST BE PARADISE

    (S. W. Benjamin)

Back in the garden the spring is ever flowing

Back in the garden the leaves are gently blowing

And the birds they sing so sweetly

And my heart feels so complete

This Must Be Paradise

This Must Be Paradise

You led us here with your heart and hands all knowing

We built a place to keep our dreams growing

Where the angels whisper in the breeze

Songs that heal and bring us peace

This Must Be Paradise

This Must Be Paradise

(Bridge)

Listen to the distant cry

As the world goes rushing by

With too much greed and too much pride

For this simple way of life

And how long must we suffer

Before we can rediscover

The earth she is our mother

And we must live as sisters & brothers

If we hope to return to Paradise

Look at how the sunshine dances with the trees

Look at how the moonlight reflects upon the stream

And every creature large and small

Lives together ‘cause nature loves them all

Here in Paradise

(Bridge)

Back in the garden the spring is ever flowing

Back in the garden the leaves are gently flowing…

This Must Be Paradise ... This Must Be Paradise.....

6.  BE AT PEACE

      (S.W. Benjamin & Tom Benjamin)

Be at peace with your silent memories

Be at peace with your own heart

Yesterday blinds you ‘cause he’s not beside you

But you don’t need to play that part

Set your dreams on new horizons

Set your mind on bluer skies

You can’t blame love for you can’t tame love

And you don’t need those alibis

(CHORUS)

Be at peace with the hurt inside you

Don’t let it guide you, don’t wear its chains

Be as one with the truth you must live

Be as one with your love inside

Be at peace with your restless longing

Be at home with your new life

You let your weakness have its moment

Now let your wisdom shine its light

Let your wisdom shine its light

(CHORUS)

Be at peace with the hurt inside you

Don’t let it guide you, don’t wear its shame

Be as one with the truth you must live

Be as one with your love inside

Be with at peace with your own heart

7. EMPTY BOWL

    (S. W. Benjamin & Kirby Shelstad)

He was born in a cradle of sorrow

With nothing to do but cry

He would cry for his supper

Cry for his loving

Cry for his lullabies

Mama she’d come and rock him

And wipe the tears from his eyes

She would try and console him

Kiss him and hold him

But he was not satisfied

(CHORUS)

Have mercy, have mercy on this hungry child

Have mercy, have mercy on his soul

Tell me why do some have so much

While others don’t have enough

Put the bread of life into his empty bowl

Put the bread of life into his empty bowl

Now are we so blind that we cannot see

This poverty belongs to you and me

The ocean and the air we breathe

Connects us for eternity

We are one family

We’ve got silos of grain, we’ve got fortune and fame

We’ve got pedigreed cat food in a crystal vase

And the cost of all this glamour

Could attempt to feed the famine

If we’d open up our hearts to the human race

(CHORUS)

Now corruption and greed have cast their spell

And the ravages of war we know too well

But history will agree that only time can tell

Will we make this earth a heaven or a hell

Will we make this earth a heaven or a hell

(CHORUS)

9. THE WATERS EDGE

    (S. W. Benjamin)

Great Spirit above and below us

Your power is everything we see

Great Spirit around and within us

Your love is everything that breathes

May our hearts be as light as the winged ones

Our trust as strong as the stones

Our vision as vast as the ocean

Our truth as bright as the sun

And for all these blessings we give thanks

Teach us the sacred and the true

Help us to find our way back home

Into our hearts with you

Into our hearts with you

Come to the waters edge where the land meets the sea

Come to the waters edge where and dream with me.

8. PLEASE DON’T MISS ME

    (S. W. Benjamin & Jac A. Austin)

The lyrics to this song were written by my Father, Jac A. Austin, as a love poem to my Mother, Sue. He requested that I put the lyrics to music and sing it to my Mother after he had crossed over ... which I did at her memorial service.  The lyrics are a tribute to their undying love for one another and their belief in the eternal Light of the Spirit.

Sure the Doctors called it death

But I was only out of breath

Breathing now comes easy, dear

Up here in the stratosphere

They let my ashes blow

High in the sky to go

Everywhere at once to be

Set pure and shameless free

        Forever and Forever and Forever

Please don’t miss me…..I’m not Gone.

I love you so very much

We’ll forever be in touch

You’re just as close to me

As the beach is to the sea

I saw the slippers angels’ wear

So I special ordered you a pair

Mine don’t work so good right now

But I know you’ll show me how

Forever and Forever and Forever

Please don’t miss me…..I’m not Gone.

In this air so rarified

Everything thing seems clarified

There is no time, just space,

In this Divine heaven place

Everything up here’s alive

Being patient ‘til you arrive

Up here in the firmament

We’ll make a home that’s permanent

Forever and Forever and Forever

Please don’t miss me….I’m just

Soaring high in the sky each day

On the wind that took my breath away

             I’m not gone

             I’m not gone

             I’m not gone.....
