Suzee Waters Benjamin grew up in a family where art and music were second nature. She learned to sing harmony with her two sisters and appreciate jazz, blues, gospel, and theatre from her parents. Learning about the "finer things in life" translated as "creative expression." She discovered the guitar while in college learning to play soul music which to Suzee meant music from the heart and songs with a message no matter what genre.
Suzee was a reluctant performer until fate pushed her on to center stage and the next thing she knew she was fronting the Suzee Waters Band playing the club circuit in Texas. In the early 80's, Suzee made her way to Nashville,TN with two members of her band in hopes of landing some session work as a singer in Nashville's recording studios. Little did she know that within a few months after arriving in Music City, she would not only find her soul community amongst the eclectic mix of some of Nashville's finest singer/songwriters, but also her soulmate, Tom Benjamin. Together, they formed the Benjamin Waters Band recording for Crazy Mama Records while playing clubs and later writing for Branch Creek Music. She spent years singing for music publishers and record labels while fine tuning her talents as a singer/songwriter supported by her peers. "In Nashville, I learned to truly appreciate the power of a song from songwriters who were musical poets with hearts that could listen and souls that could understand." As an independent artist on SOULO Records, Suzee expressed the essence of her spirit in the recording, The Waters Edge, taking the listener on a musical journey of truth and healing. Produced by Kirby Shelstad, musician and percussionist extraordinaire, this collaborative effort between two kindred spirits speaks to the heart and soul with a unique blend of traditional and ethic sounds deeply rooted in the rhythms of the earth. As a singer/songwriter, Benjamin calls for a return to simple concerns, a gratitude for life's abundance, and an awareness of the basic responsibilities we all share for each other and our earth. The songs express themes of a personal nature, with words from the heart and a purity of purpose. The uplifting nature of the CD will ask you to stop and take time with yourself, as they are filled with truth, acceptance, freedom, imagination, visions, and dreams.The series is produced by Lloyd Barde of Backroads Music. All of the voices heard on "Heart of Innocence" are already familiar although the names might not be. MIRAM STOCKLEY is the voice of ADIEMUS, who have achieved international success to the tune of several million units. MIRIAM also has two of her own exquisite solo releases. LISBETH SCOTT is similarly well known as the voice of the STATE OF GRACE project, another international success. LISBETH has five of her own releases and was the featured vocalist as well as co-lyricist of "The Passion of Christ." DONNA DELORY is heard on two songs on "Heart of Innocence," including both the opening track and the album closer. DONNA has toured with Madonna, and has 3 of her own CDs that crossover beautifully between the chant style of her own original songs, such as heard here. TINA MALIA is the ideal artist for any fans of Loreena McKennitt, and the like, and the title track from her spectacular "Shore of Avalon" is included. SUZANNE STERLING is an ecstatic vocalist currently exploring her artistry with three different groups and has an array of new music poised for release and discovery. SUZEE WATERS BENJAMIN is living in Hawaii after being a longtime Nashville, TN singer/songwriter creating the timeless CD, "The Waters Edge." MANIKO has been honing her craft for two decades, and is part of the new vanguard of artists who have contributed to this wonderfully sweeping collection. Of special note are two tracks from the UK group, BLISS, who have developed a huge following in Europe but little visibility (yet) in the US, and a truly choice track from WILL ACKERMAN which features the amazing HAPPY RHODES (and her five-octave range). Finally, there is an unreleased track from rising star POLLYANNA BUSH called "Innocent Heart" which inspired the entire concept.
